Weekly Forecast: Big cooldown, Tropics, and More!

Hello all! I hope everyone enjoyed the night show we experienced a few nights ago when the aurora came down to Georgia! We still have some beautiful evening sky displays, with comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS adding to our wonderful sunsets. Recent weather has not been impending of this, with cloudless skies and comfortable temperatures. Today, we have what's known as a "dry cold front" entering the area, providing a major cooldown. These fall temperatures have provided a great display of fall colors across the region, but come at a price. Tropics continue to virtually boil over the Caribbean and Gulf. This combined with a slightly better pattern for tropical development has raised concerns for tropical systems near the area over the next few weeks. Today, we will go over that risk along with our big Cooldown, and some wonderful pictures here in North Georgia!

Tropics...

(NHC)

Here is our latest tropical weather outlook. 2 areas of interest are noted on this map. The closest is a small area along the shore of Central America. This area comes from the same area Helene did, but will most likely not provide any impacts for the USA. Similar thinking with the orange system, a higher chance of formation, however. Both of these systems looked to get blocked from the US by a strong high pressure. This high pressure is also going to be the guiding factor in our big cooldown and dry conditions this week.

The area we are watching closest, at this point, is that orange area. It has a 60% chance of developing within the next week. Some model guidance suggests this storm could strengthen into a hurricane. It is expected to sharply curve south before it affects the Bahamas, keeping the US safe. We will continue to monitor this system closely.

Cooldown...

(WPC)

Here is our latest front map. As shown, a cold front has cleared the state, bringing behind it fall air. This has brought our temps down to the 60s and could even reach the 50s by midweek. This cool air has been welcome in my house, open windows, and outdoor activities are in full swing at this point! This is expected to continue as cool, sunny weather will continue to dominate the forecast for the 3rd week in a row! This dry spell has brought along some fire danger. Gusty winds from behind this front along with very dry ground have brought some risk of fires. Check with Carroll EMA to find local burning allowances or bans.

Pictures!

Here are some of my favorites from North Georgia! Many people saw some red pillars, and I even saw it with my naked eye! Some folks even got to see some rarer colors, such as blue and green! Cool to see if we get another opportunity, as the aurora comes once in over a decade to Georgia!

Forecast...

This week's forecast indicates much cooler temperatures ahead. By midweek, frost is likely, which is not favorable for farmers as it signals the end of the growing season. It won't be surprising to see our first frost advisories at that time as well. Farmers will need to take precautions to protect their crops from the impending frost. For those looking for outdoor recreational time, this week is for you! We will yet again have to watch to see if this week makes the Top 25 Remy's Best College Football Weeks (RBCFW). This week will feel great, and will be topped off with some extra sunlight! If I have not said it enough, go get some Vitamin D this week!
