Remaining sun, drought, major storm in Gulf of Mexico

Good afternoon, weather family! I hope everyone has enjoyed all of this really nice weather. It has been sunny to partly cloudy almost the entire week and has felt great. In my opinion, it has been just a tad warm for my liking, but I know for most people this is nice, so no complaints here. This week looks to continue that trend: dry and sunny. However, this may lead to increasing drought concerns. This is accompanied by some slightly cooler weather and our next big storm heading for Florida. This will likely provide no major impacts for our area other than a gusty day on Wednesday and Thursday. Today, however, we will talk about all of these concerns, along with a preview for next week's conditions.

Drought...

Here is our latest drought map. As you can see, the latest rain from Helene definitely helped our drought concerns. With our week (make that 2) of dry weather, drought will start to creep back into the area. Despite the lifting of the burn ban across the area, our fire risk could increase due to increased dry conditions. Plus, a breezy few days this week could cause a high fire danger in the area. This not only could create a high fire danger but also spoil our fall foliage. Drought conditions can shorten the time for fall foliage and can lead to less color during peak times. This could also create problems for farmers and gardeners. With less rainfall, you may need to break out the sprinklers this week! Needless to say, the extended dry conditions for our area would not be good for anyone, aesthetically, or crop growing.

Upcoming cooldown...

We are entering that time of year when the leaves change, and it just feels splendid. This upcoming week is going to be characterized by a number of our 80+ degree days.

(WPC)

This is our latest map from the Weather Prediction Center. It is valid for Monday morning. You can see a cold front draped across the area. This cold front will bring an end to our 80+ degree temperatures, potentially for the rest of the year. It will also bring a drier air mass into the area (higher fire danger). I wouldn't be surprised if we see a notable uptick in flu and cold activity around this time. Overall, be ready for dryer, cooler, and sicker weather by the end of the week.

Hurricane Milton...

While this storm isn't expected to provide any major impacts to our area, we could still see some slightly gustier winds by the middle of this week. The storm is expected to be very powerful and make landfall around Tampa.

This is our latest experimental cone from the NHC. As you can see, there are no warnings immediately in effect for the US, but a major hurricane is expected to strike around Tampa. Evacuation orders have already been given in that area. If you live there, please heed warnings seriously. This is an extreme storm we haven't seen in recent memory!

Weather Forecast...

Here is our latest forecast for the week! Dry conditions all around with a gradual cooling trend through the week. Expect midweek to be more breezy than anything, but not enough to warrant any major statement.

This week has some high potential to land on the Remy's Top College Football weeks. We will wait and see until the end of the week to see if it holds a Top 25 spot, or if it will be upset by any rain chances (sorry Alabama, Tennessee, USC, and Missouri fans). Hope everyone has a great week and enjoys a cool and refreshing week!
